Catalogue card 1 reads [stamped in black ink:] 'Z 3079. FIJI'. [typed:] 'Stone implements, 32 in number. Most of these implements are marked O X number....... Letter M under the O X stands for Maudslay, and H for Von Hugel. A. P. Maudslay and' [stamped in blue ink:] 'THE VON HÜGEL COLLECTION CIRCA 1875'. [added in pencil:] '5/6/79/ AMG only 30 found'. [added in pencil:] 'Z 3079 (2) had the no 1917.118 (47) A on it. Also a label "123 Adze blade (GEE-PAX) from OUBATCHE, N-E New Caledonia 10.9.14. P.D. Montague Coll." Then chalked on it "To Fiji Colln".' [stamped in blue ink in the bottom right corner:] 'SHOW CASE NUMBER 6'. A small round red sticker pasted to the front of the card. At the back of the card [in black ink:] 'Z 3079 (2) has a label stating this blade came from New Caledonia, dated 10.9.14. ?P D Montague collection.' [added in blue pen:] 'Z 3079 (3) OX 690 75 Dolerite; Z 3079 (2) Glassy andesite.'

Description (CMS Description)
Adze head of dark grey stone. Very polished and smooth. Oval in section, almost triangular in shape. Tapering rounded butt. Cutting edge formed by the surface slanting at the top and on the underside.
