The mat is probably a model; Collected by: Skeat.W.W in : " Part of the ' semangat padi' rice soul, or Malay ' harvest maiden' ceremony. The first 7 grains of rice cut are bound in a white cloth, bound with 7 particoloured threads and are laid in a basket and protected with an umbrella taken from the fieldto the house. It is then laid on a sleeping mat (this object) and at its feet the first three bags of rice are heaped. The whole thing is covered with white cloths. It is eventually trodden down and the grains mixed with the seeds for next year' s sowing"
