Context (CMS Context)
The dimensions of the box are 23" x 21" x 19" . It is front opening. The box number ' 101' belongs to an outmoded system of classification. The card also contains the numbers ' 27' and ' 718 G' , their meanings being at present unclear. The description from Skeat' s Printed Catalogue I reads: " A model of an ordinary Malay House, with pigeon-house, granary, out-houses etc, such as occupied by an ' Orang Kabaniakkan' , that is a Commoner, which differs from a Raja' s house in the disposal of the verandahs (the arrangement here shown being called ' kelek anak'), and that the gable ends of the eave-boards which must cross each other: ' mitres' or close-fitting joints in the wood-work of a house being the prerogative of a Rajah" . The pigeon house is boxed elsewhere. This item needs to be rechecked against the Printed Catalogue I, and the box reclassified according to the modern system; Collected by: Skeat.W.W in 1896; 1897

This house, with cloth curtains/shades, seven figures on the veranda, with a dog and model ?tree, is in a box is labelled "27 sk 207" with an attached modern label which notes "102". However, it is likely that the house is part of Skeat I, No. 713, the bridal party, inside the house, as the tree shaped item may be the rice-cake thickly planted with wedding favours. This is confirmed by Skeat researcher, Dianna Carroll from ANU, on her visit, 10 June 2014.
