There are 4 cards, all with the Z number 33794, and all apparently describing different objects (although there is an amount of ambiguity). The contents of each card has been reproduced at time of computer transcription. This item is labelled Skeat I: 14, but tallies with Skeat I: 17 except that it is not a model. The item needs to be rechecked against the Skeat Catalogue I.

Context (Amendments / updates)
W.W. Skeat made two collections in Southeast Asia. The first was made while he was District Magistrate in Selangor, Malaysia in 1896-1897 and is known as the First Skeat Collection or Skeat I. The Second was made in 1899-1900 on the Cambridge Exploring Expedition to the Malay Provinces of Lower Siam and known as the Second Skeat Collection, or Skeat II. Most objects were not given accession numbers on acquisition by MAA, and given Z Numbers during reorganisation in the 1980s. Several objects presumed to be from the Skeat Collections, but which cannot be traced either to an existing Z number or to Skeat’s catalogues, have been given TEMP numbers. Some of these are definitely Skeat, and some are not. The work of matching objects to their Skeat catalogue numbers is ongoing and likely to remain incomplete.

Context (Amendments / updates)
This jacket appears to more closely match entry 14 in the Skeat I catalogue, which is '(5) the Baju Kurong, worn as a wedding-dress with the Sarong'. However, it has been marked on the inside of the neck with Tělok b'langa, which corresponds to number 17 in the catalogue. 17 is described as a model, whereas this is full-size. It may be that this object was incorrectly marked with the Malay term. More research into the difference between the two terms needs to be done in order to determine, which applies to this object.
