Accession No

1905.301.1-2

Description

A large, plain iron door and surrounding frame (.1), possibly for a safe, with hinges on the right-hand side and a cover for the keyhole. There are traces of wallpaper on the front of the door and frame, of a green background with white leaf designs on top. The locking mechanism mounted on the back of the door is of a warded lock type, and though the key still turns in it the bolt is no longer functional. The key (.2) has an ovate bow, a collared cylindrical pipe shank, and a single bit, slightly curved in cross-section, with bulleting down both sides and key wards cut into the rear edge.
