Description

Copper alloy square headed brooch with rectangular headplate of three concentric panels. The inner panel is decorated with an inverted human mask flanked by four-armed spirals. The second panel is divided into rectangular areas, four of which are decorated with circular punchmarks. The frame is decorated with style 1 zoomorphic ornament along the top edge and grooved lines along the sides; the upper corners are decorated with elongated ovals. Low-arched bow with central circular boss and trapezoidal panels either side decorated with zoomorphic ornament. Beneath the bow is a human mask flanked by helmeted beasts with a moustache that extends into a lozengiform footplate frame with side lobes in the form of human masks in profile each with a silvered rectangular flat projection. Human mask terminal with curving eyebrows and moustache and extended silvered lip. Pin bar lug and catchplate present on reverse with remains of mineralised textile.
