Context (Amendments / updates)
Dr Jody Joy examined this handle on 29 July 2014 and identified it as a handle from a wooden tankard. Due to the stylized appearance, it is from the Iron Age cultural tradition and dates to either the late Iron Age or early Roman period. Dr Joy believes the animal to be a horse or a bovine, Dr Jope (see Bib above) identifies it as a canine, so both have been included in the new Description. The Period field has been updated from simply 'Roman' to include Late Iron Age.
