Context (Analysis)
The Battely Coll. objects deposited in the Museum, in 1914, by Trinity College, were all catalogued as having come from Richborough. In the summer of 1978, however, several of the objects were lent to the Fitzwilliam for a temporary exhibition. The staff of the Fitzwilliam studied the original source (Battely, Antiquitates Rutupiae, 1745) and discovered that three of the specimens (Ref. Plate: XII) in fact came from Reculver. Objects not sent to the Fitzwilliam have not been researched, and could therefore come from either site, but 1895.27, Z 22482 and D 1914.111 appear to have definitely come from Richborough. See individual cards for details.
