Label in urn reads: 'Roman Cinerary Urn of Unbaked Clay, containing calcinated human bones, was discovered 3 1/2 feet below the Surface in a field at Lower Halling nr. Rochester, on land the property of Formby Cement Works Compy., while excavating a line of Rail[way] to their Chalk Pits. Several other Urns, each have a small Tear Pot, were found in close proximity, a large block of Chalk covered each Urn, The Cemetery was surrounded by a Wall built of FLints. Six of these Urns were found + others supposed to exist in the Undisturbed portion of the ground.

Two handwritten labels found, perhaps once attached to the urns (1922.601 and 1922.602 B) and now slightly disintegrating and faded. However, neither seems to exactly match the transcription given in the catalogue card for 1922.601 so they should be examined afresh.
