Description
Stone altar with rectangular cross-section, straight sides, and flat base. Capital decorated with a spiral at each end with a triangular section in between; shaft framed by two sets of parallel horizontal lines at each end, with an inscription carved between on one face; opposite face has an unworked surface. One face also has a shorter inscription on the base. Inscription reads:'To Jupiter, Best and Greatest, for the welfare of Desidienius Aemilianus, prefect, both his own [and] his family's, [the dedicator] set this up and willingly fulfilled his vow in the consulship of Tuscus and Bassus.'

Bainbrigg assigned it to Chester in the Wall (or Busy Gap); Horsley, with hesitation, to Chesterholm, while Hodgson, Bruce and Huebner assigned it to Carvoran.
