Description

A disc shaped copper alloy cheek-piece with a rectangular loop on the rim and a central hole for the bit. The front is in the shape of a conventionalised bird with a crested head and spiral-shaped body; the a beak at the centre of the cheek-piece. There are three loops on the reverse; there is some mineralised material around the loops.

Orvar Karlbeck (1932): 'Cheek piece. In the shape of a conventionalized bird with spiral-shaped body. The bill is long and curving. At the back of the head there is a spiral-shaped crest. In the centre there is a hole for the bit, and on the rim a loop for the rein. At the back are three loops. Black patina with green incrustations.'
