Description

21 sherds of varying fabric and type, all handmade Hallstatt pottery. One everted simple rim sherd, fifteen body sherds, and one obtuse angled flat base sherd, some partly reconstructed, all seem to belong to a large bowl of calcareous grey buff fabric with black slip on the exterior. Three matching body sherds as well as a further body sherd show graphite coating on the exterior. Context (Related Documents)
Attached to the catalogue card for 1923.1216 is a letter addressed to Fox dated 11 April 1923. The sherds seem to have been given to O.G.S. Crawford while in Austria to fulfil a promise made by Dr Christian. They seem to come from a few sites which are now in Austria, the provenances are variously described as Lower Austria, Moravia and Southern Moravia.
