Description

Five sherds of handmade pottery of varying fabric. One everted simple rim sherd, reconstructed from two matching sherds, of buff fabric with brown polished slip on interior and on exterior neck; body with rough unpolished surface. One everted undulating rim sherd of micaceous buff fabric; rough surface with vertical pattern on exterior. One body sherds of micaceous grey fabric; rough surface with straight pattern on exterior. Two matching base sherds of calcareous and sandy grey fabric.

Attached to the catalogue card for 1923.1216 is a letter addressed to Fox dated 11 April 1923. The sherds seem to have been given to O.G.S. Crawford while in Austria to fulfil a promise made by Dr Christian. They seem to come from a few sites which are now in Austria, the provenances are variously described as Lower Austria, Moravia and Southern Moravia.
