Attached to the catalogue card for 1923.1216 is a letter addressed to Fox dated 11 April 1923. The sherds seem to have been given to O.G.S. Crawford while in Austria to fulfil a promise made by Dr Christian. They seem to come from a few sites which are now in Austria, the provenances are variously described as Lower Austria, Moravia and Southern Moravia.
