Attached to the catalogue card for 1923.1216 is a letter addressed to Fox dated 11 April 1923. The sherds seem to have been given to O.G.S. Crawford while in Austria to fulfil a promise made by Dr Christian. They seem to come from a few sites which are now in Austria, the provenances are variously described as Lower Austria, Moravia and Southern Moravia.

Description (Physical description)
Variety of colours and types. Worthy of note; small sherd from rim of vessel painted red with black design, terracotta-like sherd from rim with incised pattern and a number of sherds with shiny stripes and a chevron -like design painted on the black glaze.
Some pieces in this group seem to match or come from the same vessel as some of those in 1923.20. One piece has the same type of cotton wool stuck to the surface as is found on many pieces in 1923.20.
