Description

Cross pendant of copper alloy. Within a Latin cross with surrounding foliate decoration and Glory a Russian orthodox cross is depicted as the variant of the Calvary Cross, showing the cross atop the hill of Calvary; left of the cross the Holy Lance is shown, to the right a pole, probably topped by hyssop sponge. Around the cross are abbreviations in Church Slavonic: ЦР҃Ь СЛ҃ВЫ = 'Царь Славы', Lord of Glory; ІС҃ ХС҃ = 'Иисус Христос', Jesus Christ; 'НИКА', Victor; 'К' = копьё, spear; 'Т' = трость, pole (with a sponge) and 'М Л Р Б' = 'место лобное рай бысть', place of execution is paradise. On the back, the cross is decorated with fine incisions showing cross crosslets inside diamonds at the ends of the Latin cross followed by strips of illegible writing and a bigger diamond in the centre of the cross with worn off decoration. Signs of wear all over; the bottom left 'ray' of the glory is broken off and missing, otherwise complete.

Inscription in Cyrillic reads: 'ЦР҃Ь СЛ҃ВЫ' above the Russian Cross, 'ІС҃' to the left, 'ХС҃' to the right and 'НИКА' below the pole, interrupted by 'К' above the spear and 'T' above the pole as well as 'М Л Р Б' below the cross.
