Description (Labels & Markings)
Written on sherd: 'Goná F.B. Cuttle'. sic. Goná is thought to be incorrect and this sherd is actually from Sedes (see Update). Cuttle's first initial is W, whereas Welch's is F.B. It is assumed that the person labelling this sherd confused the names, and so 'F.B. would be disregarded.

Context (Acquisition Details)
A letter from William Cuttle to Louis Clarke, dated 9 August 1926, is attached to the catalogue card for 1926.334. In it he notes that he has been 'verifying the provenance of the sherds [1926.334-336] which [he] unloaded on [Clarke] in Cambridge about a month ago', specifically references to Léon Rey's publication (1926). The catalogue card notes the sherds were 'collected during the 1926 excavations', presumably the 1926 excavations of Vardaroftsa by W.A. Heurtley and R.W. Hutchinson, of which Cuttle was a member, although this is not specified in the letter, nor in the publication of the Vardaroftsa excavation, and it is possible they are actually from Léon Rey's excavations.

Context (Amendments / updates)
This sherd was originally recorded as being from Gona, along with 1926.334 B, and is marked with that site name, but it is listed in Cuttle's letter as being from the 'Tomba of Sedes' so the marking is seen as a mistake (see label) and the Place field has been updated accordingly.
