Context (CMS Context)
Foster Bequest, Catalogue, p 26 Arrow heads of similar type are known from the XVIIIth and XIXth Dynasties and possibly later, although the thickening of the tang to prevent the head from being forced back into the shaft on impact are not visible in the published examples. An arrow head of the same type but much larger was found by Petrie at Abydos in circumstances which seem to indicate an early XIIth or even XIth Dynasty date. A statement in a prophetic work of the period that " men shall fashion arrows of copper" seems to confirm the early date of this specimen from Abydos, although the standard types of Middle Kingdom arrow heads seem to have been of wood or stone; Collected by: Foster.W.K; Ref. Plate: XLII : 170-176; IX : 14 (?Middle Kingdom); XV (possibly XIth. Dyn.ex); XLVI : D118 (dyn. XVIII); IX (II-dyn. XVIII/XIX); X (II-dyn. XVIII/XIX); LII : D98 (suggested XXII-XXV dyn. intrusive in XVIIIth.dyn.tomb)
