Found in a plastic bag of seven balances/weighing scales (1914.411.1-14, 1922.1160.1-4, 1927.61, 1927.63, 1927.64.1-9, TEMP.00856, TEMP.00857) with a handwritten note reading 'WEIGHING SCALES'.

Description (Physical description)
Japanned tin case (1) - oval tin case, surface treated with black japanning 'lacquer', with hinged lid and now-broken catch. The inside of the lid is padded and covered with faded pink silk, with the inside bottom of the base was once covered with a green, coarsely-woven textile, though this has been very badly damaged by moths (likely historical). There are also two curved, pink-painted wooden inserts with circular holes to hold five weights (of which one is now missing).
Balance/set of scales (2-4) - a steel balancing arm (2), in the centre of which is a thin spike, a hinged suspension loop, and small hinged plumb. A straw-coloured tassel is affixed to the top of the suspension loop. There are also two shallow circular brass pans (3-4), each affixed to three strings of green cord which terminate in a small wire hook.
Four small weights (5-8) - small brass cylindrical weights with flared tops and central protruding lugs. They all fit into the mountings in the case. One is stamped '2 16' and with a small lion passant symbol, one '5 8' and also with a small lion passant, one 'SOVEREIGN' and with a crown symbol, and one '7 S' and with a small spearhead symbol.
Coin-shaped weight (9) - a single brass [?] coin-shaped weight, stamped on one side 'ROYAL MINT 1821' and in the centre a symbol comprising a lion surmounting a crown, and on the other 'SOVEREIGN CUR WEIGHT D.W.5 G.R.2 1/2'.
