German stoneware tankard (Schnelle). Applied silver rim with a ribbed section beneath and a rod handle springing from the neck and attaching to the conical body. A hole is present through the handle probably for the attachment of a silver hinge for a lid. The surface is decorated with three identical panels depicting a woman holding a small trident with a piece of cloth in the other hand; a banner above her reads 'STER EIN IOE TEIN' . Above this is an architectural arch with two long beaked birds and laurel branches flanking a central heart shaped symbol with a smaller bird with its wings outstretched (possibly an owl) above. At the foot of the figure is a section of twisted ropes with two trees wither side. Below this is a rectangular plaque held by two rampant lions that reads 'UCH GOT HILF MIR' The bottom of the vessel is ribbed further and the base is flat. D shaped crack to the upper portion.
