Description (Physical description)
Folding balance/scales (1) - a mahogany box with brass hinges and catch. When opened, a hinged coin balance unfolds from an inner compartment. This balance has a brass framework with a pivoted steel balance arm, with a small weighing platform of steel and brass at either end. The bottom of the case's inside compartment, and a small part of the underside of the lid, are lined with red velvet.
Weights (2-6) - five frustrum-shaped weights with small knobs on their upper surfaces are also inset into small compartments within the case. In descending size order they are stamped '5 8', 'SOVEREIGN', 'SOVEREIGN 1/2' 2 16' and '7 S'. Each weight is also stamped with a small lion passant.
