Context (Analysis)
On 17 March 2016, Marian Campbell Ramsay, former Senior Curator at the V&A, examined this object. She believes that it is probably not an original Limoge enamel crucifix figure, but was instead made in the 19th century with the intention of passing for a medieval figure. She reached this conclusion on the basis of the fact that the figure is cast, unlike the majority of Limoge enamels, and because the loincloth lacks the typical belt, it instead simply springs from Christ's hips. Based on this, the Period field has been amended: '?Medieval; ?Modern; ?19th century' has been added and '?11th century; ?12th century' removed.
