Context (Analysis)
Described by Mr. H.S. Kingsford as follows: 'The inscription is clearly S' Willi De Gasquone'. Whether this is Gascony I am not sure. At all events it is a man's seal. The device is three little kneeling men receiving a charter (with pendant seal) from a seated figure. A funny device for a private seal which makes me wish that 'Willi' were 'Villae' - but it is certainly not. So the thing that must be the personal seal of William of Gascony? or perhaps it is safer to say Gasquone'.
