Description

Large glazed red ware square floor tile with white clay decoration. Coat of arms at centre featuring three eagles displayed on a bend cotised. Possibly the coat of arms of Richard de Badew. Previously identified as representing the arms of Grandison; this is however not an exact match. Foliate patterns surround the shield, with a fleur-de-lis at one corner. Damage to two corners and back.

Context (Analysis)
Although formerly identified as representing the arms of Grandison, this is not an exact match. It does, however, look very like the arms of Richard de Badew, former Chancellor of the University of Cambridge and founder of Clare College.
