Description

'Bollock/ballock’ dagger (kidney dagger) with iron blade and extant oval copper alloy quillion plate. Single-edged blade is hollow ground with flat back and chamfered edges; blade back features two large sections that are chamfered to a point; blade tip is rounded. Quillion plate is convex towards handle; two opposed ‘U’ shaped notches at midpoint; ends are decorated with band of incised lines. Squared tang tapers slightly, tang terminal shaped to accept pommel. Blade features inlaid copper-alloy maker’s mark in the form of a circle with attached crescent.
