A label, of mixed typed and hand written, adhered to the object reads 'Provenance unknown, but certainly Scotland. Bought from Wolston, dealer, who said that it had been bought in October 1918 at the sale of the stock of S. Powell, the well known Cambridge dealer. W.R.'
