Context (Acquisition Details)
'The indistinct nature of the hand written marking on this axe no doubt resulted in an interpretive allocation both in the Accessions Register and on the catalogue cards which show the place of finding as "Tansfield Pit" but also "no provenance". However, when compared with the same hand-written markings on one item marked Z 15137 and also on Z 15146.D.1 - which is word for word the same and in the same hand - it seems highly likely that the correct place of finding is in fact Barnfield Pit, near Swanscombe, Kent." 13/04/2011.RooleyP.'
