Context (Amendments / updates)
This spindle whorl was not originally listed on the catalogue card for 1921.587. In Brunton's 'Gurob' the contents of Grave 11 implies only one spindle whorl was found, and the illustration of it is clearly 1921.587 A. Therefore, this spindle whorl should only tentatively be associated with Grave 11, or even Gurob, as material from other sites (ie Sedment) was donated in 1921. The Place field has been updated to reflect this uncertainty accordingly.

Context (Amendments / updates)
There has been some confusion caused between the two whorls, 1921.587 A and 1921.587.1. Both of these are of a similar conical shape and design with incised lines and chevrons. 1921.587 A appears in Brunton (1927) on pl. XIII no. 8 on the spindle 1921.632. It appears on the Catalogue card that the dimensions, added in a later hand were inverted, and the shorter of the two really is 'A' and the taller one '.1'. In addition, Barber (1991) noted the weight of the whorl attached to the spindle from Gurob as 'about 150g (5 1/4 oz.)... weight courtesy of the University Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology' (p.64). This is actually too heavy to be 1921.587 A (104g) and is in fact the weight of the heavier 1921.587.1 (at 154g). Could the wrong whorl have been weighed for Barber?
Barber goes onto say that 'the only other top and the only other such limestone whorl in the cemetery are in graves with Aegean-related pottery (Graves 217 and 600 respectively...)' (p.65). Could this be referencing 1921.587.1? Unfortunately Brunton does not include an image or illustration of the whorl from Grave 600 but only notes 'Also:...limestone coffin eye & spindle-whorl' (pl.XXVI) and there is no '600' included in the distribution list and so how Grave 600 was distributed is not fully clear.
