Context (Analysis)
This object was found loose in the Keyser Workroom and could not be matched to any existing MAA idnos. The source or any provenance is unknown. Dr Catherine Hills examined the object in 2011 and suggested it was either Coptic or Ethiopian.

Context (Analysis)
On 17 March 2016, Marian Campbell Ramsay, former Senior Curator at the V&A, examined this object. She believes that it was made in western Europe, possibly Germany, and likely dates to the 10th or 11th centuries. The Place field has therefore been changed (from ?Egypt; ?Ethiopia) as has the Period (previously ?Coptic; ?19th century), although more research needs to be done to confirm the details.
