Context (Analysis)
On 17 March 2016, Marian Campbell Ramsay, former Senior Curator at the V&A, examined this object. She believes that it was made in western Europe, possibly Germany, and likely dates to the 10th or 11th centuries. The Place field has therefore been changed (from ?Egypt; ?Ethiopia) as has the Period (previously ?Coptic; ?19th century), although more research needs to be done to confirm the details.
