Description

Composite harpoon head with iron end-blade. The blade has a triangular point and is connected to the harpoon head through a blade slot and secured with iron rivet. Below is a transverse line hole and socket with small notches on each side for lashing, with marks visible. Below is a pair of spurs, that are wedge-shaped with a serrated edge, possibly for a second use as a scraper.

This collection was previously entered as from '?Southampton Island' and collected by Graham Rowley in 1936. However, they correspond to those excavated by Rowley in 1937 at the site of Avartoq [Akbahtok], Strathcona Sound, drawings of which are in his excavation notebook (XA/1/39/4). The Place field has been updated accordingly.
