Worked narwhal tusk ivory, possibly a handle. It is one longitudinal piece, with one flat, thin end and one thicker curved end. At the centre are triangular notches on both sides and a deep groove band for lashing.

Context (Amendments / updates)
This collection was previously entered as from '?Southampton Island' and collected by Graham Rowley in 1936. However, they correspond to those excavated by Rowley in 1937 at the site of Avartoq [Akbahtok], Strathcona Sound, drawings of which are in his excavation notebook (XA/1/39/4). The Place field has been updated accordingly.
