Description

Oblong box covered with straw marquetry, fitted as a writing desk with ink bottles, lidded compartments, etc. The cover has, outside, an elaborate and well executed scene with ships, buildings, man and woman fishing, etc., mirror inside lid; smaller lids have similar though less elaborate scenes. Well preserved. Green and brown straws used

Description (Physical description)
Peterborough Museum: 'Rectangular wooden box with hinged lift up lid with inset mirror. Has a lift-out tray with four lidded compartments and two glass ink pots. Underneath are two further compartments with hinged lids. Decorated inside and out with high-quality straw marquetry in golds, browns, greens and reds, depicting a harbour scene with buildings and a man and woman on the lid, and village scenes and flowers on the internal compartment lids and round the sides.'
