Description
Model; Spinning Wheel - Working model of a spinning wheel, with figures of a woman spinning, another holding a baby, another holding a stick, a dog standing before her. Two women wear wide brimmed hats, one a tall cap. (Worked by a system of cogwheels fixed below the platform on which the figures stand: when the handle controlling these wheels is turned, the first woman lifts the thread to her mouth, the second kisses the baby and the third lifts the stick to beat the dog who backs away from her.) Small windmill beside the first woman

Peterborough Museum: 'Moving mechanical bone model of three women and a dog at a large openwork bone spinning wheel with a windmill. Mounted on a platform, with three open work cogs and a turning handle underneath. Mounted on four teardrop feet. Their clothes are decorated with carved circles and diagonal lines. When the handle is turned the cogs turn, and these are linked to the spinning wheel with thread to make that turn as well.'
