Description

Iron spearhead with long blade. Wide, angular shoulders, slightly concave sides below shoulder towards remains of socket. Blade has slightly concave sides and a low central rib. Around base of socket is the remnant of an inlaid copper alloy ring.

Long, with low mid rib. Greatest width near base of blade. Socket missing. Slightly raised ring at junction of blade and socket. Bronze inlay at base of blade.

In July 2013 James Hodgson, BA student at the University of Central Lancashire, identified this as M.J Swanton Type H3 (cf: A Corpus of Pagan Anglo-Saxon Spear-Types. BAR 1974).
