The catalogue card for this vessel gives the period as 'Bronze Age' but the catalogue record lists it as 'Middle Bronze Age'; it is unclear who added this information. As accessory cups are generally dated to the Early Bronze Age, this has been added to the Period field and Middle Bronze Age kept tentatively until further research is conducted.

On 23 September 2015, Dr Sandy Budden examined this vessel for evidence that it was made by a learner. She noted several elements that indicate this vessel was made by a learner, perhaps by someone who was practicing coiling. Firstly, the base is too heavy, made of a flat slab of clay; the sides of the vessel are made of three coils but the walls remain thin between the coils. Furthermore, Dr Budden believes the groove in the rim was probably in preparation for another coil, indicating that the pot was not fully 'finished' before it was low-fired.
