Context (Found together / assemblage)
The Annual Report covering the war years (1939-1946) records this group of objects (1942.125-1942.129) as coming from a 'cemetery, in the vicinity of Quy, [which] produced a sword and objects of the seventh century recalling those from Burwell and Shudy Camps. This important cemetery ought to be excavated if an opportunity should occur' (p. 2). The records for 1942.128 and 1942.129 record that they were found when making a landing ground. This might be the same cemetery that the gilded square-headed brooch (AN1909.320) in the Ashmolean Museum was found. However the Heritage Gateway record (CHER No. 06508), which does not list the MAA objects, notes that: 'AS remains reputed to have been found at Quy (Ashmolean Museum) are almost certainly from the large cemetery in Little Wilbraham parish.' This purported cemetery does not appear in Meaney (1964). Whether these finds come from a distinct cemetery or are part of the Little Wilbraham cemetery is currently unknown.
