Context (Amendments / updates)
This object was accessioned with no source information and has no immediately identifiable marking nor any labels. However, it matches the description, location and multiple measurements of a knife in from Burwell in Sir John Evans' collection described in Evans' Ancient Stone Implements publication. Many of Evans' stone tools from Burwell were accessioned into MAA as Z numbers. It seems that this object was indeed in Evans' collection, and he has now been added to the Source field accordingly.

Description (Physical description)
Metzger (2017): This object is a sub-rectangular flint tool that has been bifacially worked. The tool was made off a dark olive flint with completed polished faces and edges. This artefact has evidence of manufacture; some of the flake scars are still present. Due to the curved nature of the tool, it was clearly made from a flint flake, but the bulb of percussion is not visible.

Context (Analysis)
Metzger (2017): This piece falls into the category of Polished-edge Type IV. This category is Clark’s Type IV. This shape warrants its own category as the shape is completely different than the others and they are manufactured different as well. The faces and edges of this tool are usually completely polishing with a few exceptions. This artefact was found at Burwell Fen, Cambridgeshire.

Context (Analysis)
In September 2017 Melissa Metzger, PhD candidate at the University of Bradford, studied a number of polished discoidal knives for their Crowther-Beynon Grant. They supplied further descriptions, measurements, contextual information and bibliographic references. These fields have been updated accordingly. They also suggested a date of Neolithic which matches part of the existing Period field of Neolithic; Bronze Age.
