Context (Found together / assemblage)
Evans discusses the group of five objects found together in Burwell Fen (now identified as Z 23942, Z 23945 B-C, Z 23951 and Z 31550). In addition to the grinding stone, 'were found two celts of flint... which in all probability had been sharpened on this very stone. In the same place were two long subangular fragments of greenstone of the right form, size and character to be manufactured into celts, and which had no doubt been selected for this purpose' (p. 263). Fox picks up this point by noting that it shows 'that axes of "foreign" rock were made in the district' (p. 11).

Context (Other owners)
This object was accessioned with no source information. However, it bears the trace of a label, now lost, of the same shape as those used by Sir John Evans, and the handwriting matches. It is almost certainly the polished celt referred to in Evans' his publication (see Bib), as it matches the measurements and is marked '(A)' just like the other polished axe found with it (Z 31550). It is still unknown when the object entered MAA's collection, but Evans has now been added to the Source field accordingly.
