Context (Analysis)
As part of research for the publication 'Decorative Punchmarks on Non-Ferrous Artefacts from Barrington Edix Hill Anglo-Saxon Cemetery...' (1996), John Hines visited MAA and took Xantopren-L blue (silicon-based rubber) peels from many of the objects subsequently listed in Catalogue 2 of that publication. It is not known whether this is one of the objects from which a peel was taken or when.

Context (Field collection)
There is currently no grave information for Z 16133.1-2. Whilst it is possible that this will be identified in the future, it is also possible these brooches were amongst the artefacts found at Hooper's Field in the months between the cemetery's discovery in 1879 and the commencement of Foster's excavation in April 1880.

Description for 2006.744 A-I: '8 Anglo-Saxon brooches. Three cruciform brooches (A-B, C and I), and four small-long brooches (D-H). One brooch broken in two and catalogued as A-B.'

Context (Amendments / updates)
Both the Accession Register and the catalogue card for Z 16133 identify the brooches as coming from Edix Hill (Barrington A) and from Trinity College loan collection, and they also note these brooches are illustrated by Cyril Fox in the Archaeology of the Cambridge Region, Pl. XXX. The photograph, however, is annotated 'Barrington B' [Hooper's Field] and the brooches are clearly mounted on a board reading 'Foster Bequest', which does indeed tally with the site of Hooper's Field. Furthermore, Hilton (1961) also identifies these brooches as being from Hooper's Field and the Foster Bequest. It seems, therefore, that the Accession Register and catalogue card were mistaken in assigning these brooches to Edix Hill and the Trinity College loan collection, and the record has been amended accordingly.
