Grave 25 was described as containing a muscular, but very old, male; all the lower molars had disappeared before death. At the head of the grave on the left-hand side was a spearhead, a knife was in position by his left-hand side, and a bronze buckle preserved fragments of cloth.

The initial excavation of the Anglo-Saxon cemetery was carried out in the early months of 1952 by the Cambridge Archaeological Field Club under the direction of the Hon. R.W.H. Erskine and D.M. Wilson. Its discovery was reported by Mr G.O. Vinter, MA, in the autumn of 1951.
