Context (Analysis)
These sherds (Z 27228 A-H) are likely to be the ones briefly listed by J.G. Hurst in 1956 as being collected by Mr Coleman 'from dredging at the foot of the hill on the Foxton-Barrington Road' in 1946 (p. 58). More information was included in their catalogue records, specifically that they were dredged from the River Rhee at Ivy Cottage. The record also gives the collection date as during WWII, rather than 1946, but this latter may have been the date they came to the Museum or simply slightly later. Hurst also mentions a bronze bowl, possibly Z 16087, and scramasaxes which have not yet been identified and may have been confused with those excavated from Edix Hill and Hooper's Field. A clunch bowl (Z 11468), not listed by Hurst, also appears to have been found at the same time. Therefore the Source field, which was previously blank, has been updated with Mr Coleman as collector and donor.

Description (Physical description)
60 sherds of mixed fabric. 48 unglazed body sherds, some with incised, applied or rouletted decoration; one unglazed sherd of a large, grooved, vertical strap handle; six green glazed sherds; five sherds of obtuse-angled base, four of orange fabric with thumbed impressions and one of grey fabric with incised wavy lines.
