Description
Large wine amphora of pink-buff clay, with a rounded, elongated body that is wider at the bottom and narrower at the top. Above the shoulder is a long, narrow neck with an everted rim, with two handles, one on either side, decorated with shallow vertical grooving. There is a long tubular spike with a blunt end protruding from the base. Gallo Belgic. There is a crack across the spike that has been repaired with infill.

The material seems to date just pre-Conquest, c. 40 AD.

Large two-handled radish-shaped amphora, with handles of flattish oval section with shallow vertical grooving. Pinkish buff clay and has a similar spike to 1953.11 B. Gallo Belgic.
