See two notes attached to catalogue card for location sketch map. Found: East Fen Drove. North side of East Fen Drove, central field of the three narrow ones west of a slight bend in the road, where now stands a big tin barn; Collected by: Trump.D.H in 4 7 1971; 14 11 1971: Only the strip alongside the hedge examined, where the sugar beet where that much thinner on the ground. Finds: Pottery - 1 curved rim, flint gritted, coarse black paste, dull brown surface 4 similar sherds from 5 cm max dimension down to 2. Stone - 1 saddle quern fragment. Thumb nail scraper, 1 long blade (7 cms), 1 fine blade 2.3cm with 4 parallel scars on back, approx. 30 various waste flakes. c.10 burnt flints Bone - 1 frag. of large (?cow) long bone, 1 proximal end of fibula, but not necessarily associated Second visit: 14 11 1971. Sugar beet of the field earlier examined and that to west. Not yet of that to east or south of east fen drove. Material, especially struck flakes and potboilers, common across whole width, c. 60 m., of first field. Thins towards the north, ceasing at c. 30 m. From road hedge at west, 60 m. at east.Two sherds and one blade cove recovered. West field. Little near road, but a band some 30m. wide, extending for about 30 m. to due west. Soil-black peat, slightly sandy, over whole area. 14 m back from gate of the first field, some burrowing animal has brought up pure sand. Water snail shells noted c. 30 m further from road hedge. Fields to north east and across road not yet availablefor examination. Deep ditches, wet and much overgrown, along all field boundaries, and could be scraped to show natural Stratigraphy. Water table c. 1m down; TL 611 739
