Copper alloy brooch with spring form hinge. The top of the bow is decorated with three thin incised lines. The foot plate is missing and the pin is broken in two.

The original brown paper envelope in which the object was stored is marked in three different hands which read '[triangle shape] 16/8/68 C.M. Bennett AR IX D2 bronze fibula on road surface next to burnt feature' in blue ink, 'ARBURY RD. 1968' in red ink and 'c. o. d. J.Alexander' in pencil. on the back of the envelope it is marked 'In east face 25" depth 18" from spot opposite S W allot extension [followed by a diagram]' in blue ink.
