Context (Analysis)
In September 2017 Melissa Metzger, PhD candidate at the University of Bradford, studied a number of polished discoidal knives for their Crowther-Beynon Grant. They supplied further descriptions, measurements, contextual information and bibliographic references. These fields have been updated accordingly. They also suggested a date of Late Neolithic.

Context (Analysis)
Metzger (2017): This artefact fits in the Type III of the Polished-edge Discoidal Knife classification. This category has three types (Type I- circular or D-shaped, Type II- triangular, and Type III- broad leaf to lozenge) and show polished edge. This artefact classification might has functioned as wood or claying working tools. This artefact was found during an excavation in 1980 in Bottisham, Cambridgeshire.

Description (Physical description)
Metzger (2017): This artefact is a broad leaf shaped flint tool that has been bifacially worked. It was made from a grey flint with one polished edge. This artefact has one polished edge and that polishing extends onto the face as well. There is some post- depositional damage on the edge. There are several step fractures (a flake that breaks and leaves a ‘rolling out’ effect) on the surface. The ground surfaces look patinated.

Context (Amendments / updates)
No Source information was given, but the object is marked in pencil, difficult to decipher but possible 'E.C.' as in Evans Collection (see Z 19472). If this is the case, then it could refer to the knife 'ground along one side only' from Bottisham that Evans mentions on p. 335 of his Ancient Stone Implements. However, as there is no accompanying illustration nor measurements, it is currently impossible to confirm this. In the meantime, Sir John Evans has been tentatively added to the Source field and the possible publication reference in Contexts.
