Description
Large, cast copper alloy cruciform brooch. Rectangular headplate with flared wings and raised, trapezoidal central panel with punchmarks along the exterior edges of wings and central panel; half-round, waisted top knob; two waisted half-round side knobs, detached but present,. C-shaped bow with rectangular-section areas to top and bottom, transverse plain and hatched bands framing both ends of the section. Flat panel is tapered with transverse grooves and curved, pierced lappets; one is damaged. Horse-head terminal with protruding eyes and curved nostrils. Intact iron pin bar, pin bar lug and catchplate; evidence of corroded iron. Traces of mineralised textile around the pin bar, pin bar lug and one of the detached side knobs. Bow retains discolouration in a woven pattern, probably from textile.
