Description

Half of a triangular-backed, composite, single-sided bone comb. The tops of the toothplates project above the triangular connecting plate, and have curved notches and grooved decoration. Both faces of the comb have triangular backs, attached by iron rivets, with clustered ring-and-dot motif and a two-line incised border. The endplate projects beyond the triangular back, with a curved top. 28 teeth are present. Cracks radiate from all the iron rivets, with considerable iron staining.

Context (Field collection)
Although the Accession Register original gave the date of discovery at 1880, this was later struck through. The more likely date of discovery is 1881, the year that Francis Jenkinson excavated the cemetery at Girton College.
