Context (Analysis)
Lethbridge (1938) describes this as a fragment of the cheek-piece of a horse's bit, and dates it to the 11th century. He notes that it is 'ornamented in 'Ringerike' style. For earlier example see Oseberg fundet, iii, fig. 231. For English examples, Wheeler, London and the Saxons, fig. 27'
