This is very likely to be the axe that Frank Latchmore, of Hitchin, describes in a letter to Sir John Evans, dated 4 April 1891. In this letter, Latchmore reports that he called on the Rev Conybeare where he saw, among other objects, 'a polished celt of stone which is the thinnest & best polished one I have seen. As far as I can recollect it is a better one than the specimen (belonging to the late Rector of Knebworth) you saw here.' Latchmore concludes, 'I wish when you are in Cambridge you would call & see [Conybeare's] collection.' The letter is now in archives of the Ashmolean Museum: JE/B/2/55.
