Context (CMS Context)
This grinder looks almost identical to a diorite vase grinder illustrated in Quibell and Green's 'Hierakonpolis, Part II' (plate LXII.3), which the publication lists as coming to this museum. Although it is not the same grinder, there are many items in the museum's collection from Hierakonpolis which at some stage lost their provenance. As this grinder came through Green, it is possible that it is from Hierakonpolis but of course not definite. Hierakonpolis has been added tentatively to the Place field (which was previously simply 'Egypt'), but this identification is by no means secure.
